Mare

A series of CGI photographies exploring the relationship between computer simulation and perception of nature.

My work "Mare" is a series of CGI photographies exploring the relationship between computer simulation and perception of nature. During the lockdown, many of us had to compensate for our lack of freedom with alternative solutions, often digitally. Personally, what I missed the most is the view of the sea in my hometown with its calming and profound movement.

With this series, I want to simulate these moments by generating a digital representation of the sea with real-life lighting solutions. A panoramic picture of the Sorrento coast has been used for the 3D lighting environment; with it, I wanted to recreate the same mood of that moment.
The simulation of the sea in all the images are always the same, but with different lighting conditions making this representation just impossible in real life.

Inspired by the relativism philosophical movement, nature, semiotic and information, as an artist mostly working with digital media, I'm always looking for ways to represent the many realities of an idea.

This work of mine is a computer-generated series of images of the sea with real-life lightning simulation. The artworks should be exposed as a large format and high-definition print or on high-resolution screens within a minimal environment. I want photography and new media art enthusiasts to find a moment of calm and peace by looking at this artwork.
